The Baby Industrial Complex Part 1: Mommy Bloggers
What’s easier than taking candy from a baby? Selling babies. This is in spite of our anti-natalist culture that seems to hate children and want them excluded from society in every way. Articles and social media posts appear regularly, showing dead-eyed millennials talking about how incredible their lives are for not having children because it gave them more time for “Travel Vlogging”. And yet, people can’t help but love babies. When they see videos or pictures of them, women of every creed, culture and age gush and coo at their undeniable loveliness. Baby videos do extremely well in the otherwise repugnant mires of social media.
But make no mistake, babies are being used. The time of the chimney sweeper was left behind in Victorian England and the modern world has found a new way to exploit children in surreptitious and insidious ways that they believe they are beyond reproach.
Let us reproach them together.
