So WELL written and echoes many of my own values on abortion.
"Society’s position on abortion is a mirror to its moral health." Truuuuuuuth.
The crunchiest part of thIS conversation (that I fINd IS usually avoided - so I commend you for your courage to go tHere) IS: "exceptions". I have gone tHere, and needless to say it offended a lot of people (which I AM personally okay with).
The Truth IS …. abortion IS never necessary.
While some circumstances may BE and are unfortunate, none justify killINg an INnocent Child.
Such circumstance IS when a pregnancy IS caused by or IS the product of INcest and / or rape.
ABORTION IS UNEQUIVOCALLY MURDER.
Abortion kills a person. Abortion after rape IS a contINuation of violence. It provides no sINcere healINg, and it leads Women to BElieve that the “remINder” of the rape IS gone and tHerefore that the trauma of the rape has BEen resolved.
WE All feel deep compassion for any Woman who has BEen a victim of rape or INcest. However, the simple reality IS that abortion does not erase the INitial violation, it simply perpetuates and metastasizes it. The tragedy IN thIS case, circumstance and context IS the rape or INcest itSelf ― not the Child. THere IS evidence that victims of rape who get abortions experience regret for their Choice. However, victims of rape who Choose to see their pregnancy through do not regret their Choice.
Despite the fact that the conception of thIS Child was not INnocent, the Child itSelf IS INnocent. The Child should not BE punished and persecuted, for they are not a sINner. Women who are IN thIS position need to affirm that the Child IS an INNOCENT and BELoved PERSON, BEcause that IS The Truth. Rape violates the sacred dignity of the sexual act itSelf, however it has no BEarINg on the sacred dignity of the NEW LIFE.
To quote Dr. David Reardon, a full-time researcher on the impact of abortion on Women “both the MotHER and Child are helped by preservINg Life, not by perpetuatINg violence.”
Abortion IS irrevocably a form of state-sanctioned feticide that society only grants doctors as part of their responsibility “to protect and promote the health of the public.”
That’s the caveat.
Feticide IS a legal event and tHerefore a crimINal offence, wHereas abortion IS a medical event and tHerefore an altruistic occurrence.
Thank you for havINg and holdINg thIS conversation! God Bless.
An intelligent and well-written argument, but like that of many of the fiercest advocates of either side of this difficult and ultimately miserable question (and in so many other social questions), one where the authour does not carry their ideas through to their logical conclusions to then examine whether their premises were sound.
"This physiological reality forms the premise of this article: that at the moment of conception, the thing, the totipotent cell, the microscopic amoeba, is a unique being that is not its mother or its father."
I have often seen this argument, which seems persuasive to me. However, I note that by this argument, any miscarriage should be followed by a funeral. If the embryo even at zygote stage is human life, and if its body must be protected by law, then it must be given the same respect as anyone else who dies by accident.
Indeed, if a woman has what she believes is a slightly-delayed heavy period, she should be required to get a pregnancy test, and if it turns out she was pregnant, then her flushing the heavy-bloodied toilet paper down the toilet might - if it can be proven she knew or was reckless to the idea that it might have been a miscarriage - she should be charged with desecration of a corpse.
And of course, any miscarriage must be investigated by a special unit of the police to discover whether she contributed to the miscarriage by malice or carelessness. If abortion is murder, then many miscarriages will be manslaughter.
Let us make sound arguments and have strong principles, by all means. But then let us take these arguments and principles to their logical conclusions. If we like their conclusions, all is good. If we do not like their conclusions, then perhaps we must revisit our original arguments. This is the usual case with social questions where the answer given is an absolute like "all X is Y." Uncertainty is uncomfortable. Certainty is comforting.
Do readers who believe "abortion is murder" believe that every miscarriage should have a funeral, that every woman's every monthly cycle should have her tested for pregnancy, and she be required to retain all pads and tampons lest they contain the remains of a miscarried child, and that women who have miscarriages should be investigated criminally to determine whether their actions may have contributed to the miscarriage?
Yes. Most sane women view the loss of a pregnancy even at two weeks even at one week as a miscarriage. They often do have funerals. What is your point?
Inspired read. Well done.

I have never heard of a funeral for a miscarriage. Perhaps I only know "insane" women.
And the other questions?
